Here’s a notification tone (for IM or SMS notifications). I recorded it on an airplane last week. It’s the seatbelt on/off tone.
It was noted that a dual-toned “bing bong” would be better. But I guess Southwest doesn’t use a dual-tone…? I might try to match a second tone to it.
Everybodies,
I started a twitter account for Future Spa. Future Spa is a spa that’s in the future, and in outerspace. Only the hardest bodies take up residence there. It’s a place for relaxation, but also discipline and enhancement. Follow the feed to learn more, and to see what kinds of cool things are going on there.
The background to the twitter page is from Hubble’s latest photos.
Scott wanted a tone of Al Bundy’s “Hmm Mmm Him.”
So, mmhmmhim.
That audio is taken straight off of youtube. Also, I kind of believe that people should be rewarded for answering the phone quickly, and so… well, that’s not truly what I mean. What I truly mean is that I kind of believe people should be punished for not answering the phone quickly. So, as a punishment of sorts, I made the last half of this a kind of horrid battle between Al and the laughing audience. And he’s only able to get them to stop cutting him off by singing the actual lyrics. But even then their laughter lingers a bit, so he yells out something else. And that mostly shuts them up. The end.
I tracked my bike commute to work by GPS, using the My Tracks app for Android.

It has all kinds of stats (when you click “end”), such as average speed and max grade. I didn’t go very fast this day.
Here’s a mixed cassette tape (psych!) that I made, all on computer for you to give a listen. This is what I’ve been into lately. I think it’s a good mix.
I renumbered the tracks, so hopefully they will show up in your playlist in the correct order.

I just now named it Material Sensations. It’s hard to get a theme-read out of this. A few songs seem to be about the physical appearances, and the inaccessibility, of ladies. As a summer mix, it’s mostly upbeat-ish. My favorite type of upbeat song, though, are ones with minor chord melancholishness running with the beats (featured prominently in Sabali and Both Ends Burning). And I ended things with some coming down songs. One is actually called Coming Down. I like when mixes end in this fashion.
McGriddle Defense is complete! It’s a fanzine I put together. It’s basically fan fiction and other fun stuff, all to some degree revolving around the McGriddle breakfast sandwich. A bunch of friends contributed to it. It has stuff like poetry, a comic, fiction (sci-fi, slash, choose your own adventure, etc), tips, and more! It’s 40 pages.
The Portland Zine Symposium is this weekend at the Smith Memorial Building at PSU. McGriddle Defense will be at a table - the table with Miami, You’ve Got Style, Degrassi Digest, and such. It is FREE. I will also be cruising around with copies, trying to get people to trade me things for it.
I made buttons, too.
If you can’t make it to the Zine Symposium, but want a copy, send me a message with your address, and I will send you one.
For further information, plus a sample of what’s inside, take a look at the McGriddle Defense website.
Heyo,
http://blueskiesabove.us/mcgriddle/ is ready for you to visit and enjoy.
I’ll be adding more stuff to it as we (earth) get closer to the Portland ‘Zine Symposium. I put up a Sample Item from the ‘zine on the site. So read it.
Thank you.
Heya, final reminder, in case you were planning to submit something for the ‘zine. Sock it to me by Friday. If you feel like you want to submit something, but don’t know what to submit, then you can start by submitting a question to me (preferably, in the comments). While your question won’t really be useful for the ‘zine, at least it might satiate your desire to “submit” something. And anything is better than nothing.
Here’s an example of a type of question I’ve received a few times (this is straight out of a chat!):
Q: mostly, you want people to kind of talk about how awesome mcgriddles are, right?
at least not like, rant about them.
A: yes, ranting is stupid and not funny.
and usually not “fiction”
if a mcgriddle killed your mom, then yeah, you can rant
if mcdonald’s sucks and meat is murder, then no
Question solved!
Anyway, I’ve received some cool stuff, and I’m expecting more soon. I think this will come out well. But I have like three weeks to get it all ready! Ack. I think I can do it - I have to do it.
Join my flickr group! I just created one called It’s The Thought That Counts! wherein members can share well-intentioned gifts gone awry.
Here’s the description:
It’s The Thought That Counts is a space for sharing those well-intentioned gifts that, for one reason or another, fell flat.
It’s a space where these gifts can be appreciated by a wider audience!
We welcome a whole range of “bad” gifts - from sagging cakes, to tacky clothes that are the wrong size, to art from your kids or relatives. Anything!
This is not a mean-spirited group (kids often make “bad art” - and it’s charming!), and we hope that if someone posts a gift you’ve given you won’t be offended. Your heart was in the right place in giving it, after all. And that’s what counts.
