‘notha ringtone. This one is from one of my favorite episodes of the Simpsons – the one in which Marge starts a mobile pretzel business. This line has been ringing in my head for years, so I thought I’d commemorate it as a ringtone. I was going to add some music from my synth, but I can’t find my 1/8 dual mono to 1/8 stereo cord! Blah!
So it’s just the one line, plus some surrounding dialog/sounds.

today I did some trudging across the vast tundras of portland. the trek was long, and not very cold because I had a lot of clothes on, and at one point I took a picture. I returned with my bounty, and have since been feasting. it’s sort of official that I won’t be able to get down to visit my family for christmas. I’ve never not been at my parents’ house for christmas. but I’m not sure if that alone is terribly meaningful, since I’m sure I always knew that this day, and other days like it, would at some point occur (though not quite in this way). even so, I found it fit to declare to my dad that god was trying to tear our family apart! my dad said he’d pass the message on to my mom. the thing that bums me out most is that lil’ Elliot is going to play Baby Jesus in the church play, and now I’m going to miss that….
These are the sounds of me walking through snow with boots on. (I also recorded me clipping my nails with slippers on, but I’ll wait to share that one.) The snow had a thin layer of ice on top, hence the crunch.
I’m all snowed in in Portland right now. The curbs are gone. Roads and sidewalks have joined to be a sea of snow. I should cover my motorcycle, but my cover blew away to I don’t know where.
Picture of outside yesterday!
My old digi recorder broke, so I’m now calling it “my old one.” I got a new one to replace my old one. It’s an Edirol R-09HR. So far it rules. Expect new and exciting ringtones! I made one now, called “pinball ringtone.” I could see answering my mobile to that, and I hope you can too.
Edit! I made another ringtone. This one is called Vibrate Mode Ringtone. And what it does is emulate the “buzzing” sound of a mobile phone that is set to vibrate mode. Enjoy?
Studs,
Drew, of Work by Drew fame, has released the third installment of the Portland FunBook. It’s a hugemongous 11×17 book, and accompanying it is a 7″ record containing like 12 local bands! We had a Launch Party at Holocene last Monday. It was a hit. It was especially cool to scan around and see 30 people all sitting down and reading it. Party on! I drank rum and sometimes guarded the merch table, handing out copies.
Jason (a.k.a. DJ Ghost Dad), owner of local comic store Floating World Comics, DJ’ed the show. And the linear grooves of Flaspar, the lisp-rocking punks of Cafeteria Dance Fever, and the psych tinkerings of a supergroup (I can’t remember the name!) with members from (I heard) Valet, White Rainbow, and stuff, supplied a nice soundtrack to the night. Nice job, Drew.
But enough about that fool, Drew! I worked on the Funbook, too. If you choose to read it, you may very well notice no spelling errors, no? Enough said there. And also if you read it, you may notice a full page devoted to an article about playing pinball in Portland, with a drawing of a Portland-themed pinball machine at the top, yes? Yes. If you haven’t read it yet, you will most likely not have noticed any of this yet (unless you perused the low-grade preview). At any rate, I wrote that article and drew that drawing.
Buy the Funbook from Powells, Reading Frenzy, and (I’m assuming) Floating World. And elsewhere!
